What the American Psychiatric Association Says About Hypnosis...

Although similar dangers attend the improper or inept use of all other aspects of the doctor-patient relationship, the nature of hypnosis renders its inappropriate use particularly hazardous. [ Policy statement 2009 ]

Hypnosis should be employed by psychiatrists or other health care professionals with appropriate licensure and training, and it should be implemented within the scope of their professional expertise. [ Policy statement 2015 ]

 


It's interesting that the American Psychiatric Association appears to have reservations, yet they don't don't seem to want to spell it out for the public, which is really kind of disingenuous in itself.

Why not explain why they hold the stance that they do?
